Benefits & Considerations: Points to consider
The happiness of Katywil clients is of paramount importance to us. Perhaps more important than knowing Katywil's benefits is knowing its disadvantages. Obviously, what are pluses for some are shortcomings for others.
For example, some prospective buyers have found Katywil too rural, too isolated. From the property, the only manmade object visible is the top of a silo on a neighboring farm about a half mile away. Others find the silence and beauty inspiring and invigorating.
You should also know that 23 miles northeast of Katywil in Guilford, VT, is Vermont Yankee, a nuclear electricity-generating plant. During the last year, the plant has drawn increasingly vocal criticism about its boosting its production 20 per cent. Though Katywil is not within the 10-mile radius of the Emergency Planning Zone and is upwind of the plant, a "significant event" at Vermont Yankee might have serious repercussions here.
Because of its rural character, including winding roads and a single volunteer fire department and ambulance team, medical assistance is not as immediate as in more urban and suburban areas. The closest hospital is the Franklin Medical Center, about half an hour away. There are also hospitals in Northampton and Springfield.
Many find the winters here too challenging and prefer warmer climates. And finally, if you are not working from home, living at Katywil requires commuting. A number of people who have visited the project have said they plan to commute at first and transition to working at home. High-speed satellite Internet connection is available.
